About Baby Blue

Baby Blue is an Allied Luders 33 built in 1969. Ours is hull number 73 out of about 100 built by Allied on the Hudson River. Production ended in 1974.

With almost ten feet on the beam she was comfortable for the two of us, especially compared to some of the boats we were originally considering. A five foot draft enabled us access to most inlets without fear of running aground. In 2008, she was updated with new sails and standing rigging, a new 22hp Yanmar engine, and an electric windlass. Our biggest contribution was the addition of a Monitor self-steering vane to give us a break on longer passages.

The Luders 33 claim to fame is that it was sailed by Robin Lee Graham for part of his solo circumnavigation. It was also recommended in Gregg Nestor's book, Twenty Affordable Sailboats to Take You Anywhere.
